Sexy Necklace for a Sexy Costume

American Hustle is a 2013 American black comedy crime film directed by David O. Russell.

It was written by Eric Warren Singer and Russell, inspired by the FBI Abscam operation of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Starring Christian Bale and Amy Adams it was released in 2013. It tells the tale of a con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild F.B.I. Agent, Richie DiMaso, who pushes them into a world of Jersey power-brokers and the Mafia.

2014 Academy Award WInner for Best Costume Design

In this film, Amy Adams wears a wrapped dress that my client purchased on auction. The Collection of Motion Picture Costume Design commissioned our studio to re-create a necklace that was worn with this costume in the film.

The jewelry worn in the movie was typical from the late 70’s-early 80’s. I knew I could locate something very close to the original. Little did I know that I could match it exactly.

Time and research paid off I was able to locate the faux pearl and textured gold colored base metal pendant online. With the pendant in hand we knew the next step was to capture the look of the chain. With minor adjustments to the chain, our “new” necklace was created within budget.

We decided to go with the ball and chain style rather then the twisted bar link - we just couldn’t match the sapcing on what we had on hand.

Amazing how close we can get! Photo by Kathleen Lynagh Designs.

The Collection of Motion Picture and Costume Design is a privately owned business that I have been working with for the past several years. Each project is very unique. Some jewelry pieces that I create for them are historically significant while others are indicative of the style of the times. This particular costume was an 2014 Academy award winner.
