How it All Started: Designing Jewelry for The Collection of Motion Picture Costume Design

Recreating the Victorian Pendant from the film - “Gaslight” was our first project with Larry McQueen. This project was the beginning of our joint collaboration in recreating jewelry seen in Hollywood classic films. We felt that the jewelry was so significant in completing the costume - if Mr. McQueen didn’t own and he couldn’t find then we would recreate it. Our collective goal was to make the best replica jewelry and pay homage to the costume designer’s original intent.

Larry McQueen, the owner of The Collection of Motion Picture Costume Design, had the idea to recreate a brooch that was worn by Ingrid Bergman in the film classic “Gaslight”. He was in the process of restoring the gown to its original state and wished to complete the look by creating the pendant.

We started our jewelry collaboration with this replica project. It was our belief that this pendant have been from a personal jewelry collection. Ingrid Bergman may have owned the original or perhaps the costume designer had a jewelry collection. This was worn in the film to complete the costume. Costumes were designed by Irene Maud Lentz, an American fashion designer and a costume designer from the 1930’s.

As with all of our projects we start with just a few images from the film archives and just jump into research and design development. Some projects are easier than others - all of them are unique! That is what is so great about this job.

The Bergman pendant was just the beginning of our collaboration. To learn more about this project click the button below for our articles pertaining to this Victorian replica pendant.

For the past several years we have been working together - recreating lost Hollywood treasures. Read through our portfolio or click below for more details.
